7 Often Forgotten Spring Cleaning Tasks

With the weather starting to warm up we often start to think about doing a big spring clean to refresh our homes now that winter has passed. This usually starts with our wardrobes (donating lots to op-shops I hope!) and includes things like our garages and gutters, but there are tasks that lots of us seem to forget to put on the list. So, today I thought I would share my top 7 often forgotten spring cleaning tasks and I’d love to hear yours as well!

7 Often Forgotten Spring Cleaning Tasks

1. Inside Kitchen Drawers & Cupboards

I don’t know about you, but it’s not very often that I pull everything out of my pantry, kitchen cupboards and drawers and give them a proper clean out! These spots accumulate crumbs, dust, drips from sauces and oils and all manner of other things, so now is a great time to work your way through each drawer and give them a good ol’ scrubbing. It’s also an excellent time to check the expiry on anything in your pantry, as well as cleaning the inside of appliances like the toaster and microwave, leaving your kitchen clean, organised and ready to whip up something delicious!

2. Door Frames & Handles

For some reason we all seem to remember to clean our baseboards regularly, but the rest of our door frames and handles seem to get missed, despite the fact they are often where sticky fingers end up leaving their mark. It doesn’t take long to do, but cleaning all the way around your door frames (yep, that means the top as well!), the handles, as well as the door itself is definitely worth adding to your spring cleaning list this year.

3. Fabric Furniture

I have fabric couches in my living room and study, and I often quickly run the vacuum over them but I very rarely pull them apart and properly clean them down. Now is an excellent time to do just that – beat the dust out of your cushions, pop the right attachment on the end of your vacuum and go to town cleaning every last centimetre of your fabric furniture. Best self propelled vacuum cleaners make the process easier for you. Don’t forget the tops, in between the cushions and down the sides as well! Given how much time we spend sitting on these it’s best not to think about how gross they may actually be, and just focus on cleaning them up instead!

4. Blinds & Curtains

Now that the sun is coming through the windows more frequently it becomes easier to notice dust and marks on your window furnishings, so it’s a great time to get cleaning them along with your carpet cleaning routine. Your curtains should come with cleaning instructions, which might include getting them dry cleaned, using a steam cleaner or just a particular setting on your washing machine. As for blinds, I don’t have venetians or the like at home, but I have heard that mixing water and vinegar and then dipping an old sock in it (on your hand, not your foot!) and using that to wipe down your blinds is an easy way to remove built up dust and grime. The final touch is Zerorez Irvine carpet cleaning to make your house shine. Roller shutters and window shutters give you the privacy you need, to avail the services of a company that specializes in the above do visit the link.7 Often Forgotten Spring Cleaning Tasks

5. Light Fixtures, Lamps & Fans

Our light fixtures, lamps and the top of ceiling fans are notorious for accumulating lots and lots of dust, but given the hassle of getting up to clean them they don’t often make it to the top of the cleaning list. Now’s the time to change this! I use a microfibre cloth to do my dusting which means I do have to get up close to my light fixtures to do this, but if you have a duster on a stick then this might be an easier task, just make sure you don’t miss too much! Make sure to check your 18x20x1 air purifier and change it as the season’s change to maintain circulation of fresh air in your house. If you have ceiling fans now is also the time to switch the direction they are turning to ensure you are circulating the air for the correct season, so check that setting while you are cleaning them as well!

6. Inside the Dishwasher

We rely on our dishwashers to clean away all our leftover food residue, but how often do we clean our poor dishwasher out? Pull apart your dishwasher and clean out all the filters, removing any built up gunk and making sure every part of the dishwasher is able to do its task properly. Then, run an empty cycle using baking soda with a splash of eucalyptus oil in the powder dispenser and pour white vinegar in the rinse-aid dispenser until it overflows. This will leave your dishwasher sparkling clean and ready to properly clean your dishes! Besides, buy only high quality filters from Lenser filter manufacturing.

7. Range-hood & Fridge Coils

Given the role of the range-hood it should come as no surprise that it gets full of grime and dirt, so it needs a good cleaning every now and again. Remove the filter from your range hood and let it soak in warm water, dish soap and baking soda before scrubbing with a soft scrubbing brush. Don’t forget to also dust and clean the outside of the range hood as well!

The inside of our fridges generally make it onto the spring cleaning to-do list, but you should also pull the fridge out and vacuum down the sides, underneath and the actual coil itself. This helps your fridge to run more efficiently which can cut your energy bills as well, making it a win all round!

It’s still too cold here for me to be thinking Spring Cleaning. I kind of wait until the fire isn’t on 24/7 because it just produces so much dust!

Fridge coils – I always forget about them, until we move house again. Then again, we move every two years so they’re not totally neglected 🙂 My friends think I’m weird for cleaning my washing machine and dishwasher – glad there is at least one other person who does it!

I’m constantly cleaning but there is always something I forget. I pulled out the dining room chairs the other day, and the floor beneath the table was filthy. I’d done the rest of the floor! Just in time for my real estate inspection. Oops.

I just spent a good chunk of my day scrubbing the bathrooms from top to bottom and steaming all my floors. As I was doing this I noticed so many other small things that need doing and the wooden blinds is top of the list. Will get onto the rest of your list next. 🙂
