August Favourite Finds 2020

It’s August Favourite Finds time! I’m not going to lie, it took some effort to find my favourite things from this month – it’s been a rough one for us in Melbourne. It’s probably no surprise then that my August Favourite Finds are for the most part ultra-local. There’s not much choice when you’re confined to a 5km radius of home! I’d love to hear about your favourites too – especially if you’re also in Melbourne!

Smith & Deli

Smith & Deli is definitely not a new find for me, but I’ve been there more in the last month than I had in a long time. I made the effort to stop by while on my daily walk a few times this month to pick up some goodies and every time I was so glad I did.

The sandwiches are always excellent, and the rotating range of treats is also top notch. I haven’t delved too far into the vegan deli options yet, but that might be on the cards for my next visit. They’re also doing delivery at the moment, so if you’re in their delivery zone I highly recommend placing an order!

Local Parks

I’ve been trying to make the most of my daily exercise allotment, especially on the weekends. I’m pretty lucky that from my house I have some pretty beautiful and iconic spots to go on these walks. One of my favourite routes takes me along the Yarra River, which somehow allows me to feel much further from the centre of Melbourne than I actually am. A bit of nature is definitely good for the soul.

One of my other favourite walks involves a few laps of the MCG. This one makes me slightly sad as normally I would have been heading in to that magical ground regularly, but it’s still an amazing spot to go for a walk. Plus, I’m sure I’ll be back in there again eventually – and the memory of the last time I was there is still pretty special. It’s easy to motivate yourself to go out in the wintery cold when these are the places I can walk!

Papirica Okonomiyaki

I had visited Papirica one before for lunch and really enjoyed it. However, despite it being super close to my house, it’s not on my regular walking route so it had slipped my mind when thinking of places to support during lockdown. Thankfully I was reminded when I saw someone share a photo and promptly headed there to pick up some lunch. It might have been a slightly messy lunch but it sure was delicious. They change up the style of okonomiyaki somewhat regularly, so I will definitely be back again soon!

Adelaide Hills Distillery Gin

This is the least-local of my August Favourite Finds! I did however buy it locally, so I guess it still counts! Gin is definitely my spirit of choice, and so I decided to treat myself to a new bottle this month. This one came with great reviews so I gave it a try and I’m very glad I did.

I’m absolutely no expert at describing gin, but I do know this is delicious! It has citrusy, spicy flavours and is super easy drinking. I have been slowly building up the bar cart I bought earlier in the year, and I’m very glad I added this one in to the mix.
