Autumn Balcony Garden Update

I thought it was about time I did a little Autumn balcony garden update, now that I have dug up the end of my summer produce (bye bye tomatoes!) and added some more cold-weather appropriate plants!

There’s still some stragglers of my previous veggies growing, I’ve managed to resuscitate my mint and I’m giving my chilis a chance to recover from the great caterpillar mauling of summer and it has responded with some new growth, so fingers crossed!

I’ve added some violas to my freestanding vertical garden to add some additional colour to my balcony, and they are just starting to flower which is really lovely to see. They’re a mix of yellow, orange and white so there will soon be colour galore!

Ive also planted a few mixed lettuces which are looking mighty happy! I’m one of those people that continue to eat salads all year round, so these will be going in lots of different dishes over the coming weeks!

The other greens I have planted are some mixed rainbow chard which when it grows a little more will add some gorgeous colour to the balcony, as well as being delicious for winter meals as well! I think there are some chard and ricotta pies in my future, deeelicious!

Lastly, I’ve got lots of herbs growing which makes me so happy, I love being able to step out onto my balcony to cut whatever I need for dinner (or for things like homemade bath salts!). My rosemary, sage and parsley are still all going strong, as well as a little pot of oregano and some coriander.

I’ve also got another new addition to my balcony, a bright red deck chair! It was a birthday present from my sister, and whilst it might not get a whole lot of use over the next few months (unless we get a little more sunshine and a little less rain!) it will definitely be in high rotation come Spring and Summer!

Needless to say, I’m pretty happy with my little balcony – who said you need much space to grow your own produce!?

There we have it, my little Autumn balcony garden update! What are you growing at the moment?

Aren’t you the sweetest Merilyn! I’m keeping a close eye on my plants for bugs too but they seem to appear whenever I turn my back!
