Blended fun: Hummus and Juices

As I mentioned earlier in the week, I have a new food processor/juicer/blender toy and I’m loving playing with it, so pretty much everything I cook at the moment has at least one element going through the machine! I’m particularly loving the juicing mechanism, but also whipped up some hummus to snack on at work.

Hummus is such an easy dip to make, and the best part about making your own is you can tinker with it to suit your own preferences. I like it with quite a bit of lemon and garlic, and also am quite partial to a fair shake of paprika mixed in, so I up the balance in favour of those ingredients, but you can change it up to suit your own tastebuds.

Ingredients List

  • Can of organic chickpeas – washed and drained
  • Lemon juice
  • Garlic
  • 2 tbs tahini
  • 2 tbs olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and Pepper

Steps

  1. Pop all ingredients except the salt and pepper in the blender
  2. Blend well, then season with salt and pepper to taste
  3. If it’s too thick, add additional oil (or water if you prefer)
  4. Sprinkle with paprika to serve

I’m particularly loving playing with juice combinations – so far I have been using apple, orange, pineapple, carrot, celery and ginger but I have some beetroot to throw into the mix as well.

What are your favourite juice combinations? Anything you recommend I try?

Right. That does it. I have to go out and buy one of those machines. I love fruit and veg juices. Yeah, try juicing your beetroot maybe with some carrot and orange.. and have you ever used pomegranate molasses? I’ve been experimenting with it lately, with walnut dips and other pastes and dressings. It’s both sweet and tart and might work really well with the beetroot juice..

I used some of the beetroot in a juice with carrot, orange, celery and ginger – it was delicious! I actually saw pomegranate molasses at my local Turkish supermarket the other day and nearly bought it as I was intrigued so I might have to go back and get some to play with. Thanks for the tip!

I don’t think you’d regret it if you got a machine like this – I’m like a kid at Christmas still, I love it!
