How To: Flavoured Cucumber Water

I’ve been a big water drinker since I was a kid – we didn’t have much in the way of fizzy drinks or even cordial at home, it was always water with dinner and because I did a lot of singing when I was younger I got into the habit of carrying a water bottle around pretty early on. These days I keep a big bottle on my desk at work which I refill multiple times throughout the day, however I often find myself not drinking enough water on the weekend as I get busy and distracted, until I find myself with a headache!

As we head towards summer and warmer weather, staying hydrated becomes even more important so I have been experimenting with some combinations of cucumber water. I make up a big jug and pour myself a glass whenever I walk past and now my weekend water intake is sky-high!

It’s super simple to make – just thinly slice the cucumber into a jug, add any other fruits or herbs, muddle it around and then top it all up with water and ice. It’s best to let it sit for an hour or so to let the flavours develop, and then get drinking!

I thought I would share my favourite combinations so far, but I’d love to hear your ideas too!

Cucumber, Lemon and Mint

This is probably the most common variation of cucumber water, and uses things I have an abundance of – lemons from my parents and mint from our garden. It’s really refreshing and can be as mild or strong as you like, depending on how much juice you squeeze out of the lemon slices.

Cucumber and Orange

This combination has a great citrus kick and the water takes on a slight orange colour the longer you leave it for! I gulped this down by the glassful!

Cucumber, Raspberry and Mint

I love the colour the water goes thanks to the raspberries in this variation! It probably was the water with the most flavour, as the raspberries were quite tart and I used a lot of mint. It was really delicious and a much more fun way to drink water than just plain!

I made the Cucumber, Lemon and Mint water after you posted it the other week and it’s amazing 😀 At work I always hear from customer and clients that water tastes ‘boring’ and love to recommend to them to flavour their water up with their favourite fruit and veg. It’s great to see their eyes light up and realise they might start getting their daily water intake from now on 😀
Thanks for sharing this over at Smoothie OTW, I featured your smoothies from last week too 🙂 I love your work!
