I live on a TV set…

I know that heading sounds ridiculous, but it’s true. At least some of the time. You see, both the inside and the outside of my house is used for the filming of the Australian TV show Offspring

To be honest I’m not even entirely sure how it all began – they were already using the house before I moved in last year – but almost all the key show locations are within a small radius of where I live, so my understanding is the location scout went searching for houses in the area that might be suitable for the upcoming story lines.

It’s a strange scenario having your house used for filming. Every few weeks over summer they take over the house for a day or two, film and then disappear again. At one stage they left the house set up over the weekend so they could continue shooting on the Monday morning, so we spent a few days ‘living’ on the set of Offspring. That was particularly bizarre as it was still predominantly our furniture but everything was rearranged and there were knick-knacks and personal items dottered around the place. Photos of other people on the bedside table. Someone else’s bath products by the sink. A chopping board and knife on the kitchen bench, as if someone was preparing food before they upped and left. Odd!

Normally though they leave almost without a trace, other than the house being left cleaner (bonus!) and a few bits and pieces that aren’t quite put back where they belong. It did take us a while to find the tv remote one time!

I think the craziest part for me will be when the episodes begin airing and we are able to sit in our lounge room and see that very same room on the tv. Watching people going about their lives inside your house, pretending they live there and that them sitting on your couch, cooking in your kitchen and sleeping in your bed is completely normal. Crazy!

Here’s a few snaps I took from the weekend it was left set up.

Has your house been used for anything out of the ordinary?

I just read your comment over on Mamamia about how you live in the Offspring house! How cool!
No my house has never been used for anything out of the ordinary… not that I know of anyway! x

It’s rather cool isn’t it! I have to admit I actually haven’t seen much of the show but I will definitely be watching this season!
      Thanks for visiting! xx

Oh my god, I came over here all excited about the veggie box I just had delivered and you have THIS excruciatingly awesome story to tell! I LOVE OFFSPRING!! So is it Billy and Mick’s house that they set up your house for? Do you have to clear out while they’re filming or can you stay and watch? This is so exciting!! (bouncing up and down in my seat like an 8-year-old here)… (second bounce-up-and-down episode for the day – my veggie box is fantastic!).

Oh I’m so glad to hear you were happy with the veggie box! I can’t wait to see what you make!
We have to clear out generally, it’s usually while I’m at work anyway but we have to spend a night or two out of the house each time as well. We do get paid for it so I’m definitely not complaining! And yep, it’s Billie and Mick’s place.

How funny! I haven’t seen Offspring before (I know I have a lot of catching up to do) but it seems like a really cool show. Must be so strange to “live” on a TV set but a funny experience nonetheless. A cleaner house is a definite bonus X

To be honest I’ve only seen bits and pieces of it as well, but now that I live on the set I think I’ll have to start watching it!

Oh, that is GOLD. Yes, I’m obsessed but it’s really kind of cool that your house is one of the sets of Offspring!

It’s certainly different, that’s for sure! A few weeks ago I had to pop home while they were filming and so watched them do a couple of takes – will be very strange to watch when that scene airs! Although I have a feeling watching my house on the show will be strange altogether!

They should so make you an extra, like someone who knocks on the door or the landlady! 🙂

You could purchase some magnetic letters and leave a message on the fridge, see if it makes it onto the show. Thanks for the insight!!

Funnily enough we have letters on our fridge and we left them spelling our names but they are too clever for that! We came back and it said Billies name instead!

It’s so strange! Particularly when they are ‘in’ the lounge room and I can see the very couch I’m sitting on – bizarre!

I love your home! My favorite part is arched doorway at the end of the entry hall and the stained glass window. I live in the U.S. and just discovered Offspring on Hulu Plus, I LOVE this show, it’s addictive.

Thanks, although I sadly don’t own the place, just rent it with friends, but it is a lovely house. I didn’t know Offspring had made it to the US! They’re filming the next season right now!

This is way cool! As you know, I’m an Offspring fan. I think I would probably faint if I knew Matthew Le Nevez had even set foot in my house…

I had to pop home one day when they were filming but unfortunately he wasn’t there at the time, it was a scene with Jimmy & Mick (and Jimmy’s kid) so I didn’t get to meet him! I got to watch some of the filming though which was fun!
