October Favourite Finds

So October turned out to be a month of learning for me here at ISPP HQ, jam packed full of workshops and events. It’s hard to believe we’re at the end of another month, but we are, so here are my October favourite finds! I’d love to hear your favourite events and finds of the month as well!

October Favourite Finds

Little Blog Big

Earlier in the year I went to the first ever Little Blog Big workshop and loved it, so when I heard they were running another one in Melbourne with updated content I knew I had to go along again and I’m so glad I did. Carly (aka Smaggle) and Chrissie (aka Hair Romance and the Mrs in Mr & Mrs Romance) seriously know their stuff and I walked away with all kinds of inspiration and tools for this blogging caper. Plus, they are both delightfully lovely ladies which makes the day extra fun (particularly when you go for wine the next day too!). They still have a few more workshops coming up this year (Brisbane, Canberra & Sydney) and will be running lots more workshops next year, so if you’re a blogger or small business owner I highly recommend you check them out when they come to your city!

October Favourites - Little Blog BigSlow Road Workshop

One sunny Sunday this month I spent the day at CERES at the Slow Road workshop, listening to the wonderful Brooke and Bele talk all things slow living. Brooke’s blog and now podcast (Slow Your Home) and Bele’s blog (Blah Blah Magazine) have long been favourites of mine, to the point that I felt like I really knew these ladies despite having never met either of them. Luckily they were as lovely and delightful as they come across online (there were plenty of cuddles going around!). I spent the day with a wonderful collection of like-minded people talking about everything from decluttering to mindfulness, finding and setting intentions and just generally slowing down. If you’re at all interested in simple or slow living then definitely check out both the podcast and blog, and keep an eye out for their workshops in your city (they are coming to Canberra & Brisbane in November) as well. I am still buzzing with inspiration nearly two weeks later!

The Picklery Kombucha

As someone who mainly only drinks water during the day (other than my morning coffee of course!) I don’t often turn to pre-made drinks, but sometimes on a hot day I like to treat myself to something delicious. Soft drink isn’t really my jam, so when I came across a range of locally produced, delicious kombucha in a range of delicious flavours at a grocer near work I decided to give them a try. I’m so glad I did because they are deeelicious! The Picklery do  kombucha in flavours like coffee, ginger, berry and tropical, so there is something for everyone’s tastes! I have a feeling I’ll be drinking a few more of these over the warmer months ahead!

Lola Berry + Grill’d Event

One sunny Tuesday evening I got invited along to the rooftop of Melbourne Central to the St Jerome’s Hotel to attend an event hosted by Grill’d and Lola Berry to talk about paddock-to-plate eating and try some of their new food. The venue was pretty amazing, with the ‘glamping’ tents looking very inviting (they even have air-con!), I’d love to go back and stay in one! The view is pretty awesome too, we were up amongst the rooftops of Melbourne, watching the sun set with the backdrop of some very iconic buildings including the heritage Myer building and the Melbourne Central dome. As an urban planner this was right up my alley! If you get the chance to head up there and have a look around I definitely recommend it!

Unfortunately I couldn’t try Lola’s signature new burger as it includes meat, but I did get a veggie version on the new low carb superbun and it sure was tasty, if not a little messy to eat standing up! We also snacked on lots of different fries, with the zucchini fries the winner for both me and my friend Laura. It was an excellent way to pass a Tuesday evening, and hearing about how much attention companies like Grill’d are paying to both where they source their produce and wanting to provide healthier options was definitely heartening to me.
