During our holiday in Port Douglas we ate breakfast at home most days, but took ourselves out to breakfast a few times. After one excellent breakfast at Cafe Fresq we knew we needed a return visit, and I’m so glad we did!
The menu is varied without being too long, but covers all bases from healthy to decadent, sweet and savoury. A huge number of options can be made vegetarian and vegan which is always a plus, and the staff were super friendly and helpful as well.
The first time we visited I ordered the Chilli Scramble which came with chilly jam and philly toast. This was one of the best chilli scrambles I have had in a long time, and I love a chilli scramble! It had a good amount of heat, and the addition of philly toast was an absolute winner. Seriously yum. It was so good it was hard not to just order this again the next time we visited too.
The second visit I ordered the vegetarian version of Bubble and Squeak, which came with cauliflower puree, roast veggies, mushroom and poached eggs. My dad had the bacon version on our first visit and raved about it, so I thought I would give the veggie one a go and it didn’t disappoint. The cauliflower puree was smooth and delicious, and just look at that pile of mushrooms! Everything was well balanced and it was a surprisingly light breakfast for how much was on the plate! I was a very happy camper once again.
Cafe Fresq did excellent coffee as well, and I went with my standard hot weather order of iced long blacks. They do them very long in Port Douglas which took a bit for me to get used to, but they were excellent. Plus, it came with a cardboard straw rather than plastic without me having to ask, which I appreciated.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two visits to Cafe Fresq, and would happily head there again if we’re in Port Douglas again anytime soon. In fact, we didn’t even try the lunch menu, so there’s lots more to try!
