Recipe: Sticky Sesame Cauliflower

It’s hard to imagine a vegetable that is as versatile as cauliflower. This sticky sesame cauliflower dish is a prime example of that, and it’s seriously delicious. It’s such a great combo on flavours, and it’s super versatile as well. Ticking all the boxes!

Ingredients List

For the Cauliflower

  • Head of cauliflower
  • 1/2 cup rice flour
  • 3 tbsp corn flour
  • 1tsp garlic powder
  • 1tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • Sesame seeds
  • Spring onions

For the Sauce

  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2tsp sesame oil
  • 2tsp grated ginger
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 2tbs rice vinegar
  • 1-2tsp hot sauce
  • 2tsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup cold water

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 200C fan forced
  2. Cut the cauliflower into florets
  3. Combine the rice and corn flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper in a bowl
  4. Add the water and sesame oil and whisk well to combine
  5. Coat the cauliflower in the batter then place on a lined baking tray
  6. Bake for 30 minutes then remove from the oven
  7. Meanwhile, mince the garlic and set aside,
  8. Heat the sesame oil in a small saucepan then add the ginger and garlic. Cook for 2 minutes
  9. Add the soy sauce, maple syrup, vinegar and hot sauce and whisk to combine. Bring to the boil.
  10. Combine the cornstarch and water and whisk well. Add to the saucepan and whisk well. Bring back to the boil and cook until thickened, then remove from the heat
  11. Brush the sauce on the baked cauliflower and return to the oven for 15 minutes, or until as crispy as you like it
  12. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced spring onion to serve

I seriously love this sticky sesame cauliflower – I could have eaten the whole thing if I hadn’t used some self restraint! It looks like a bunch of ingredients, but most of those sauce ingredients are pantry staples.

There are so many ways you can serve this sticky sesame cauliflower. The simplest is on some rice with greens on the side, which is super tasty. It also works excellently in wraps for lunches too. Seriously, it’s just an excellent dish that I highly recommend you give a try!
