Review: Many Hands Winery, Coldstream II

While my sister was back visiting from the US over January we headed out to the Yarra Valley to lunch. After a successful first visit for me (and a few subsequent visits by our folks!) Many Hands Winery was our venue of choice. It was a hot and humid day in Melbourne, so we were very happy to spending it having a delightful lunch!

As with our first visit I started with a delicious glass of rose. We actually did a wine tasting this time which was great – a number of bottles of shiraz and chardonnay may have come home this time! One of the things we love about Many Hands Winery is that it’s family run so we were served our food and did the wine tasting with Tony and Jenny themselves – and they are super friendly to boot!

They are still doing a $55 set menu at the moment, with a choice of entree and main, or main and dessert. They actively encourage you sharing with others as well! My sister and I decided to share two entrees, starting with the vegetarian antipasto plate. It had a great mix of cheeses, marinated veggies and dried fruit, and there was certainly plenty to go around.

For our second entree we went with the Bocconcini Salad. This had less tomato than we were expecting, but plenty of cheese which was really the key feature! We were also very glad to get a good amount of greens into us given the mains we chose, so this was a fresh and delicious option.

As for the mains, Pip went with my choice from my first first – the Pumpkin and Blue Cheese Ricotta Gnocchi. There seemed to be a lot more pumpkin this time around, and she was as taken by this dish as I was when I had it. It’s rich, but it sure is delicious – and the crunch from the walnut is such a good addition.

I decided it was time for me to try a pizza given it’s what Many Hands Winery is known for! I went for the Vegetarian pizza which came with zucchini, roasted pumpkin, mushroom, roasted capsicum, antica sauce & pecorino. The dough was the perfect thickness and the mix of all the veggies was great as well – not too much of any one veggie. It’s safe to say I was defeated by this but they let me package up my leftovers which meant I had delicious lunch the next day too!

Once again we had an excellent visit to Many Hands Winery and will absolutely be back again. It’s such a nice setting, the owners are lovely, the food is excellent, not to mention the wine – what more could you want!?
