Spotlight On: Words With Heart

It’s been a little while since the last post in my Spotlight On series, where I highlight companies or products that I think are doing fabulous work and deserve to be supported. Over the last few years a few companies have entered the market here in Australia that do something that I really love – they’re providing products that we (almost) all use, are eco friendly and are committed to giving back to people who need it most. Two of my favourites are Who Gives A Crap and Thankyou, and now I can add a new favourite to that list – Words With Heart.

Words With Heart is a new stationery company started by an impressive young Aussie women called Lauren, who set out to create eco friendly stationery that empowered women through the language used and by donating 50% of all profits to projects that support education for women and girls. How great is that!

I came across Words With Heart when they were running a Start Some Good campaign and promptly ordered some of the A5 notebooks which I got my hot little hands on just recently.

Words With Heart

The paper for the notebooks is 100% made from post consumer recycled paper and recycled card, and they also use vegie based inks, solar power and are free from harsh printing chemicals. According to their website this means they use 63% less energy, 82% less solid waste and 58% less water than if they used standard paper – impressive! If you’re someone like me who is trying to be as eco-conscious as possible but can’t quite give up real notebooks then Words With Heart is definitely a better option.

As the company is just brand new they are yet to formalise exactly which non-profit organisations will be receiving the donations, but by the sounds of it conversations are well underway and an experienced panel has been assembled to assess the potential projects. The aim is to support non-profits that work in providing women and girls education in parts of the world where this is not the norm, and in turn this will help empower women and provide them with opportunities to help support themselves, their families and their communities. That all sounds pretty great to me!

Words With Heart

The empowerment of women goes beyond just the commitment to donate 50% of their profits, and permeates throughout the whole range of Words With Heart products. Each notebook has a quote on the cover that aims to promote positive, empowering messages to girls, which Lauren sees as a way to help spread their message using the notebooks as mini billboards throughout classrooms and workplaces and anywhere else they might be used!

The pack I bought included 3 notebooks, emblazoned with the quotes “she believed she could so she did”, “dream big, work hard, have fun” and “be who you are and not who they want you to be” – all pretty great messages I think!

Words With Heart

I’m pretty excited to see where this company goes as I think the idea is fantastic, and the more products like this on the market the better for everyone. If you’re a stationery fan like I am, or have some school or uni aged friends or family members then I definitely recommend checking out the range of products available. They’ll soon be shipping internationally so you don’t even have to be in Australia to support them!

Are you a stationery fan too? Head on over to Words With Heart and check them out, you won’t be disappointed!
