The Foodie Files – Boiled Eggs & Soldiers

It’s that time of the month again – Foodie Files chat time! This month I’m chatting to the lovely Vicki from Boiled Eggs & Soliders, the other weekly host of the Your Weekly Feed linkup with last month’s Foodie Files member – Kim from Zonkt Designs!

The Foodie Files - Boiled Eggs & Soldiers

Do you have a philosophy towards food?

Yes I do, it’s a pretty simple one, everything in moderation! I don’t cut out food groups but I do notice what makes me feel good and what doesn’t and try to stick with that.  Whenever I try to deprive myself of something like chocolate I find I obsess over it so in allowing myself a little bit it satisfies the cravings and I do’t go overboard.

What’s your favourite food memory?

It’s not one memory but a series of them.  My birthday cakes, Mum did the Woman’s Weekly Birthday Cakes proud and I’m now trying to do the same with my daughters.  The swimming pool cake in particular is a standout favourite

Do you have a go-to food of choice?

Eggs! Boiled, poached or omelettes I love them!

What’s your favourite meal of the day?

Brunch, it doesn’t happen often enough these does but I love a long brunch with friends.  On normal days, dinner.

What’s the strangest food you’re ever eaten (and would you eat it again?!)

It was in the same meal in and there was a language barrier, brains and pigeon and no I would never eat either again, I wish I hadn’t to begin with!  Also sea urchin, different meal but that was like licking the bottom of a fish tank and I wouldn’t have that again either.

If you were showing a visitor around town for a weekend where would be your must-eat destinations?

We have recently moved to Townsville, which is quite small but there are a few great restaurants.  The Watermark on The Strand looks straight out across the water to Magnetic Island and the food is fantastic, seafood with a view.  Jam Corner has the best brunches, seriously good. Michels for something fancy, A Touch of Salt often has tasting afternoons/evenings where they showcase wines and food from different regions or countries and finally Donna Bionda for excellent Italian.  I’m still discovering what’s on offer here but they are my favourites so far.

Where can people follow your food (and other!) adventures?

I blog about food (more of the family, easy meal kind) at Boiled Eggs & Soldiers and am on Facebook, Instagramand Pinterest and as for my other adventures I’ve just launched a new one at A Box Of so if you need a gorgeous gift box pop in and have a look at the shop, Facebook or Instagram too

Isn’t her blog fantastic! I don’t think I could have stomached pigeon either even when I did eat meat!
