Weekend Adventures: Daylesford

Last weekend B and I headed to Daylesford, about 90 minutes from Melbourne, to belatedly celebrate our anniversary. We headed out of town around lunchtime on the Friday and were stupendously lucky with the weather, it was blue skies and sunshine the whole three days!

We spent our time exploring, going to markets and eating lots of food so I thought today I’d share some of our adventures, although some of the places we ate deserve a post all of their own! Be warned, lots of photos to come!

There is no shortage of accommodation options in Daylesford, from fancy hotels, to cottages, motels and everything in between. We wanted something pretty central so we could leave the car behind and walk everywhere, and eventually settled on the Double Nut Chalets which are set back from the main street and consist of 4 studios. It was exactly what we were after – quiet & comfortable with some lovely additions like a spa, a bottle of champagne in the fridge, chocolates on our pillows and a basket of breakfast foods in the kitchen. We would most definitely stay there again!

Daylesford Weekend

We made the most of the sunshine and headed down to Lake Daylesford for an afternoon wander. It’s such a beautiful spot!

Saturday started with massages at La Vie en Rose which was exactly what my poor back needed!  After a fantastic lunch in the sunshine at Breakfast & Beer (also getting its own post!) we checked out some of the markets Daylesford is famous for, including the Mill Markets which was jam packed with amazing vintage furniture, clothes, books, records, home decor and a whole lot more!

Check out the size of this light! Amazing!

Sunday started with a visit to the weekly produce & bric-a-brac market where I picked up some locally grown grains and we saw a whole heap of gorgeous puppies (as well as a trailer full of mushrooms!)

We then headed up to Wombat Hill to take in the view from the top of the tower (and what a view!) and refuel for the drive back to Melbourne.

The Wombat Hill Cafe is known for its cakes so we decided to share a pizza to ensure we’d have room for dessert! We went with the potato & rosemary pizza and it was really delicious.

We then shared a slice of the Citrus Tart which was equally as tasty – really zesty and a great combination of both lemon and lime flavours shining through. It was the perfect way to end our weekend of eating!

And that folks was our weekend in Daylesford! It was a wonderfully relaxing weekend away and we came home feeling refreshed and ready to face the week ahead! I shall report back with those food posts soon, they’re worth waiting for I promise!
