On our last morning in Wellington we headed out for breakfast, and after reading lots of reviews I directed us to Neo Cafe & Eatery. It’s a light, bright cafe, centrally located and known for its top-notch coffee and food. My expectations were high but I wasn’t disappointed!
The menu is short but covers all bases well, including options for vegetarians and vegans. There’s also pastries and muffins available, and the menu changes to match the seasons. We got there not long after 9am and there were a steady stream of local workers popping in for takeaway coffee or food, plus plenty of people eating in as well. In fact, if we’d been any later we might have struggled for a table, which is a good sign on a Tuesday morning!
Now – on to the food! Mum ordered the Porridge ($13) which came with stewed rhubarb, crispy cinnamon almonds, brown sugar and cream. Mum was a big fan of this porridge, particularly the combo of the rhubarb with the crunchy almonds. It was a creamy, delicious way to kick off our last day of exploring!
Dad ordered the Halloumi Corn Fritters ($22), served with gin cured salmon, a poached egg, avocado, shaved fennel salad and horseradish cream. This dish came with a decent serving of both the salmon and the avocado, and Dad was a big fan of the fritters. It was a super pretty dish that was thankfully matched with its flavour as well. Another successful choice.
I ordered the Veggie Brekkie ($17) of halloumi, beetroot & pomegranate slaw, avocado, sprouts, hash brown and an added poached egg ($2.50). This was another gorgeous looking dish that was also super delicious. I loved the huge hash brown at the base of the dish, and the slaw added such an interesting element to what could have been an more standard breakfast option. I was super happy with this dish and would very happily eat it again!
We also went for a round of coffees and my long black ($3.5) was spot on – there’s a reason they were doing such a roaring coffee trade!
Overall it was a delicious breakfast and an excellent way to end a great few days of eating our way around Wellington!
