Bits and Pieces: Food Edition

Whilst I tend to share a lot of the food I’m eating with you here on the blog – either things I have cooked, or places I have visited, some of it ends up just on the I Spy Plum Pie facebook and instagram pages, and some of it, well nowhere at all! So today I thought I’d share some bits and pieces with you from what I’ve been eating (well, mainly snacking on) lately!

The lead up to Christmas is always insanely busy at my work, but this year is beyond anything I have experienced before. I’ve been getting to work super early in order to get a bunch done before the rest of the office arrives as the peace of having no phone calls, no emails arriving and no conversations happening around me really helps me get things started each day. The downside of this is I’m eating breakfast rather early which results in a rather hungry Liz by mid-morning. I treated myself to a jar of Loving Earth Coconut Chocolate Butter and have been having it on bread to tide me over until lunch time – it’s SO delicious!

I particularly love the way it gets all melty on toasted bread – oozy, coconutty, chocolately goodness! How could you go wrong!

Occasionally a Loving Earth Luvju finds its way to my desk as well, and I find these particularly delicious for a mid-afternoon pick me up with a cup of peppermint tea (in my mug I brought home from Japan with me!). If you want to read more about my thoughts on Loving Earth, you can read my Spotlight On Loving Earth post here.

Any gelato loving person in Melbourne would be aware that Gelato Messina has finally opened its first store in Melbourne, conveniently (or perhaps dangerously?!) located about a 5 minute walk from my house. After a very long week at work I couldn’t not stop by and treat myself just after they opened, and was somewhat surprised by the relatively short queues! I must have got lucky though, as every time I’ve gone past since the queues have been out the door! I went with the good ol’ Salted Caramel & White Chocolate flavour, as well as one of the specials of the week – Twix flavoured, which was chocolate gelato with caramel and scotch finger biscuits. Needless to say, it was delicious.

B and I may have popped back one rainy Melbourne evening so he could try it out for the first time and accidentally come home with a small tub! We went with the Salted Caramel & White Chocolate (he had to try it!), Raspberry Sorbet and Pannacotta with Fig Jam and Amarretti Biscuits. Unsurprisingly he loved it, so I’m sure it won’t be the last time we visit!

Another delicious addition to the streets of Melbourne is the fact that Pressed Juices now have a few stores, including one in the CBD. Previously I had tried their juices in cafes and have considered trying one of their cleanses, but it’s definitely nicer to be able to wander into a store and pick up one of their juices instead. I particularly like that they let you try as many of the different juices as you want before purchasing, as they aren’t exactly cheap so you wouldn’t want to end up with something you didn’t enjoy! I have been in a hearing right near the CBD store for a few days now, so have been treating myself to a different variety each day. I’ve loved them all so far!

So there you have it, a few bits and pieces and some new delicious discoveries! Have you discovered anything you’d like to share? I’d love to hear about it!

Do it Amy, you won’t regret it! It’s so delicious. And not insanely unhealthy either!

Yeah I’m with Amy on the chocolate coconut butter! Love a bit of melting chocolate on a slab of toast… and is that raisin toast? My god, yum. I think I need to get down to the Messina Gelato store soon too.

Hey, how’s the filming of Offspring going? Are they still using your house?

Yep, raisin toast is the bomb! So good. And Messina is worth the trip, I promise!
They haven’t started filming Offspring at our house yet for this season. They’ve been in the area a bit though, so I’m sure they’ll be over soon, just not sure if it will be before or after Christmas!

They’re so good Robyn! I’m slightly addicted. There’s just so many flavours to try, I can’t help going back!
