Today as part of my ‘Spotlight On‘ series, I wanted to shine the light on the Thankyou Movement, which is a social enterprise based out of Melbourne. Their model is similar to that of Who Gives A Crap whereby the products they sell provide a directly linked benefit to a community in need, but this time it’s through food, water and body care products.
I had read a lot about Touchwood since it opened a little while back, and despite it being down the road from work I still hadn’t made the journey to check it out. This was finally rectified one chilly Melbourne Thursday when I was able to get down there with a friend who also works locally and grab some lunch.
Shop Ramen first made an appearance on Smith Street as a 10 day pop-up ramen store in Storm in a Teacup back in February, but now has a more permanent home near the corner of Johnston Street. I have walked past many a time and it is always extremely busy, but one Friday night B and I decided it was time for us to check it out for ourselves.
We tried to visit Jimmy Grants back when it first opened, but upon arriving early one Saturday evening to find the place rather chaotic we gave up and went elsewhere. There was a queue out the door of people waiting for a table, the available tables were being used by takeaway customers waiting on their orders, and it appeared that there were 3 separate places you could order food from – it was all too much for us! The topic of today’s post is a little different to what I usually write about, but today I want to talk about toilet paper. Specifically, Who Gives A Crap’s toilet paper. Who Gives A Crap is a company that started in Melbourne just over a year ago and creates sustainable, fully recycled toilet paper that is free from inks, dyes and perfumes. Even better than that, 50% of the profits of their sales goes to Water Aid to help build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world – how impressive is that! Toilet paper with a heart!
