I can’t believe we’re only a month out from Christmas! Last year I shared posts on planning a sustainable Christmas, ethical decorating and eco friendly gift wrapping and this year I’ve got a few gift guides for you! I love buying presents for people, but I always want them to be both lovely and useful, not something that might get used for a few weeks then end up in landfill. I also like to know where the gifts were made, and what they are made out of, so I’ve been researching away to bring you gift guides covering everything from home & garden, accessories, experiences and more, starting with today’s eco gift guide: foodies!
I’ve tried to include a range of foodie gift ideas in this post, covering things of varying prices and for both the avid home cook & those that just prefer the eating side of things! I hope you find this helpful!
1. Homemade Cheese Kit ($59.95)
What could be better than making your own cheese at home! This kit has everything you need to make your own soft cheese (or you could choose the hard cheese or feta version instead) so it would be the perfect gift for the cheese lover in your life! The kits have enough for 100 batches of cheese which makes them an absolute bargain I think!
2. Wine Bike Carrier ($34.95)
Know someone that is a keen cyclists but also loves a tipple? Then this wine carrier (or the beer version) would be right up their alley! Perfect for a trip to the local park for a picnic, or round to a friend’s place for dinner. This wine carrier is even made out of recycled bike tyres, so it’s extra eco friendly!
3. Cheese Board ($39.95)
Every home needs a cheese board and this set of three from Oxfam are made out of a gorgeous sustainable wood by artisans in the Philippines. Buying from Oxfam helps support local communities and you can be sure that the items are both eco friendly and ethically made, which ticks a lot of boxes for me!
4. Tea Bottle & Teas ($48)
I absolutely adore my glass tea bottle, and all the Organics for Lily teas I have bought have been delicious, so I have no doubt this tea set would be a huge hit for the tea lover in your life! The bottles are double walled so they keep the tea nice and warm without becoming too hot to hold and they are really lovely to drink out of.
5. BBQ Hamper ($99)
This time of year is most definitely BBQ season here in Australia, so a hamper full of delicious BBQ goods would make the perfect gift! This Oxfam hamper is full of sauces, relishes, and spices as well as salad servers, a spice grinder and cook book, so it will keep you in BBQ heaven for many months to come.
6. Homemade Yoghurt Kit ($22)
Much like the homemade cheese kit, this is an excellent gift for the hands-on-foodie in your life. The yoghurt kit can be used to make greek yoghurt, non-dairy yoghurts and labne, so it will suit all kinds of yoghurt lovers. All you have to do is add milk (and follow the instructions!).
7. Paella Pan ($169)
For the avid cook in your life it is hard to beat this beautiful copper paella pan, also from Oxfam. It would be ideal not just for Spanish paellas but is oven safe as well, so is versatile enough for all kinds of cuisines. It is handcrafted in India with a stainless steel interior making it not just beautiful but as well durable. I might have to put this one on my wish list too!
8. Cookbooks (from $20)
It’s hard to beat a good cookbook for the foodie in your life, and this year I have got my hands on some crackers! Some of my favourites have included the Women’s Weekly Fast Fresh Vegetarian ($24.95), Thug Kitchen ($36), Plenty More ($42) and River Cottage Veg Everyday ($44), but the options are endless!
9. Aeropress & Coffee ($55)
If you know a coffee lover who also travels a lot, or just wants to be able to make delicious coffee wherever they are then the aeropress is an excellent gift idea! It doesn’t need any electricity to run but makes really delicious pressed coffee, and you can buy them with a reusable filter plate so you can avoid needing to use coffee filters. Combine that with some top-notch coffee and you’ll make them a very happy camper. I personally really like the Joy Beans coffee as they donate money back into the community that grows the coffee, but any fair trade option would be excellent!
