Eco Gift Guide: Home & Garden

It’s time for my third eco gift guide: home & garden this time around! If you missed my first two gift guides I’ve shared gifts for the foodie in your life as well as clothing & accessories for both men & women. Today I have you covered with gifts for around the home and for the gardener in your life, and all of them are eco friendly, ethically made and/or support local businesses, helping make Christmas gift giving a win for everyone!

Eco Gift Guide: Home & Garden | I Spy Plum Pie

1. Throw ($150)

This gorgeous throw is 100% wool and made in India through a fair-trade organisation called Sasha. Sasha is a not-for-profit group that helps local craftspeople to sell their wares around the world, ensuring they get a fair price along the way. Perfect for on the end of the bed on on the couch, I don’t think anyone would be sad to see this under the tree this Christmas!

2. Paper Pot Maker ($29)

This kit would be perfect for the avid gardener in your life as it allows them to make recycled paper pots time and time again, which can go straight in the garden when the seedlings are ready to go. Useful, reusable and sustainable, hard to beat that!

3. Planters (set of three $29.95)

These planters from Oxfam would be perfect for an avid gardener or even just someone who wants to start with a couple of herbs on their windowsill. They are gorgeous to look at, featuring handcrafted birds, and are made in Bangladesh by women in war-affected regions, making them even more worthwhile gifts!

4. Gardening Books (from $35)

I’ve shared some of my favourite gardening books here before and I have no doubt they would make great presents for anyone interested in growing their own food. You can’t go wrong with any of the Little Veggie Patch books, the balcony gardening books by Indira Naidoo or the Grow Great Grub book pictured above. So many excellent choices!

5. Recycled Coat Rack (from $50)

These coat racks are made out of reclaimed driftwood and recycled hooks here in Melbourne. I have a recycled timber mirror from this company and it is gorgeous so I am sure the hooks would also be very well received this Christmas.

6. Vase (from $65)

These gorgeous vases are from a small company here in Melbourne who work with artisans in Bali to make their ethically created products, which are all fired in kilns run off renewable energy. The vases (as well as their other products) come in a range of sizes and colours, and are all limited edition runs so you know you’re getting something special!

7. Herb Drying Rack ($19.95)

This metal drying rack allows you to dry excess herbs and flowers from your garden to then use them for months to come. It’s practical and pretty and I think it would make an awesome Christmas gift for anyone with a herb garden!

8. Serving Platter ($16.95)

It’s hard to believe it, but this serving platter is made in India out of all kinds of recycled metal, including car parts, broken brassware, aluminium cans and whatever else they come across. It has a gorgeous hammered finish and would be perfect for summer entertaining. What an excellent way to reuse metal!

9. Upcycled Gas Bowl (various prices)

I cam across these upcycled bowls and planters at a market recently and absolutely loved them, so I have no doubt they would make an excellent gift for someone too! They are made out of gas cylinders and then powder coated and come in all kinds of shapes and colours. I think I’d use it as an awesome ice bucket for summer BBQs, or maybe a fruit bowl!

There we have it, my eco gift guide: home & garden edition. I hope you found some gift inspiration!
