As first cab of the rank in my quest to learn new things I decided to do a homemade bath products class run through Laneway Learning and taught by the Green Renters. The class was held outdoors at the People’s Market which has taken up residence not far from my place, resulting in many visits by me to trial their ever-changing food options, browse the craft stalls and sample the drinks. It’s a pretty cool setup on what was an inner city car park.
Back to the class however! I am a pretty big fan of bath and beauty products and have been consciously trying to ensure nothing I buy is tested on animals, and trying to avoid as many nasty products like SLS’s and parabens, so thought making my own would be a good way of ensuring what goes in them, whilst also making them much cheaper!
The products we were making were bath bombs, clay face masks, bath melts and a body scrub. Unfortunately because the class was held outside we couldn’t make the melts, but we were given some to take home with us.
First up were the bath bombs which we made in small groups. My group made blue ones which are lime and orange scented and pink ones which are lavender and rose scented.
Next up was the clay face mask, and we were given a choice of clay depending on our skin type. From there it was as simple as adding aloe vera, some oils and the essential oil of your choice. I went with peppermint this time, as I much prefer a fresh scent to a florally one. This was followed by the sugar scrub, which was as simple as sugar, macadamia oil, almond oil and essential oils. I went with a mix of lime, lemon and peppermint this time so hopefully it will be an early morning perk up!
All in all it was a great way to spend an hour and a half and I learnt how simple and straightforward making these things at home can be. I don’t think I’ll be buying any of these products again for a while!
