Homemade Bath Salts

Baths are a wonderful way to unwind and adding bath salts into the mix really just really up the relaxation level, but you don’t need to resort to expensive bath salts any longer – I’m here to help! The best part about homemade bath salts is that you can add whatever scents you like to make them perfect for you.

Homemade bath salts

Homemade bath salts are super simple to mix up and they make a really gorgeous gift as well. All it takes is a few salts, some essential oils, some herbs & some jars and you’re ready to go! If you’re pregnant or have other health concerns it’s best to check with your doctor before using essential oils, but you can always just use the herbs!

The combination of salts all provide slightly different benefits – the epsom salts are great for soothing tired muscles and reducing inflammation, the bicarb-soda helps to soften the water and the sea salt is great for muscles, circulation and your skin. Perfect!

So, here are three of my current favourite homemade bath salts!

Peppermint & Sage

This combination is great for invigorating and revitalising you, so is ideal for when you need to clear your mind while relaxing at the same time!

Homemade bath salts - peppermint & sage

  • 2 parts epsom salt
  • 2 parts coarse sea salt
  • 1 part bi-carb soda
  • 10-15 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 2 tbs fresh sage, finely chopped

Simply combine all the ingredients, stir well and pop in a jar to store. Use roughly 1/2 cup in each bath and enjoy!

Rose, Lavender & Tea Tree

Unsurprisingly, this combination is perfect for when you really need to relax. It’s soft, cleansing and peaceful, and the dried rose petals make the bath particularly luxurious. If you have roses you can dry your own petals, or do what I do and buy dried petals that are designed to be used in tea. I get mine from my local grocer, just make sure they haven’t been sprayed with any nasties first!

  • 2 parts epsom salts
  • 2 parts coarse sea salt
  • 1 part bi-carb soda
  • 1/2 part dried rose petals
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil
  • 8 drops tea tree essential oil

Just like the last one, it’s just a matter of combining all the ingredients, stirring them together and spooning them into your jars. Perfect!

Rosemary & Lemongrass

Lemongrass is known to be an inspiring, uplifting scent, and combined with rosemary makes for a perfect combination to brighten your mood, whilst still being relaxing! This is the ideal option if you’ve had a bad day as it will leave you feeling much chirpier when you’re done, I promise!

  • 2 parts epsom salt
  • 2 parts coarse sea salt

I’m sure you know what to do by now – mix it up, pop it in a jar and away you go! I told you it was simple!

Yep, it’s always nice to know exactly what is in these things. So easy to make your own too!
