Queenscliff Exploring: Queenscliff General Store

It’s time for the first review of places we ate at in Queesncliff! First off the bat is the Queenscliff General Store, which we actually had breakfast at three times. That should give you a sense of how much we enjoyed it!

The Queenscliff General Store is one of the few cafes not located on the main strip, but it’s only a short walk away (and was very close to where we stayed!). A gorgeous little cafe with seating inside and out on the street, and some take-home meal options as well.

On our first visit I had the Togorashi Chilli Fried Eggs ($17) and it was hard not to just order this again every time! Served with panko crumbed eggplant, miso caramel, Chinese broccoli and kewpie it was a seriously excellent flavour combination. Spicy, salty and sweet all at once, and with an amazing mix of textures as well. This was such an interesting and delicious dish, and looked pretty too!

The next visit I went with a classic – avo on toast. The Queenscliff General Store version comes with smoked almonds, za’atar, whipped meredith goats curd, poached eggs, seeds & sprouts ($18). Another excellent flavour and texture combination, with a great balance between the avocado and the goats curd. I particularly loved the addition of the smoked almonds for both the crunch and smokey flavour – so good!

The last dish I ordered was the Roasted Tomatoes ($16) which were served with whipped ricotta, basil oil, dehydrated olives and grilled olive loaf. I also added a poached egg ($3) in to the mix. This was another excellent dish – the combination of the sweet roasted tomatoes and the salty dehydrated olives and olive loaf was so good. Not to mention the whipped ricotta! I was very glad I ordered a different dish each time as they were all excellent!

The coffee was also excellent! They were pumping out coffees pretty much constantly each time we were there, but they were always delicious. It was consistently the best coffee we had in Queenscliff, which was one of the reasons we went back so many times! The staff were also really friendly and helpful and they take bookings which is always a plus!

Overall it’s safe to say we were big fans of the Queenscliff General Store, so I highly recommend you give it a try if you’re out and about this summer!
