Review: Queen Street Eatery, Berry

We spent a long weekend in Berry recently for my cousin’s wedding and whilst most of our time was spent on lovely wedding festivities we did have one dinner out in town. We booked in to Queen Street Eatery for dinner on our first night and I’m so glad we did. The food was excellent, the staff were friendly and the place itself was gorgeous!

We had come from some welcome drinks so didn’t need a huge meal, so focused on a few things that we could get to share. The staff helpfully guided us through both the food and wine menu and we were very happy with our choices.

First up was this twice baked gruyere cheese soufflé ($18). It was perfectly cooked, deliciously cheesy and balanced well with the fresh, crunchy veggies. It wasn’t the easiest dish to share between two of us, but we made it work because it was that tasty! I particularly loved all the crunchy bits of cheese in the base of the dish – hard to beat that!

Next up we went with a double serve of the grilled zucchini flowers, which came with cashew cream and lemon vinaigrette ($15 a serve). This was another excellent dish. The zucchini was tender and well cooked, the flowers were stuffed with a super tasty cashew cream and the whole combo was light and delicious. I could have eaten lots more of these, that’s for sure.

Next up was the ‘main’ my sister and I shared, the roasted cauliflower ($20). It’s safe to say this was another winner! The cauliflower was tender all the way through, lightly charred and topped with a delicious combo of nuts, herbs and dried fruit. They didn’t skimp on the toppings either, there was plenty to ensure you got a combo of flavours and textures with every bite. I love a roast cauliflower and this was one of the best I have had. I was a very happy camper.

Last but not least we got a serve of fries ($8) because, well, fries. They came with truffle mayo and were excellently seasoned. We’re a family that is partial to a potato dish, and these fries were excellent. Equal parts crunchy and fluffy, they didn’t stick around for long!

Overall we had an excellent meal at Queen Street Eatery. It was a wonderful way to kick off a few days of exploring Berry and the surrounding region, while celebrating my cousin’s wedding!
