Sydney Exploring: Sadhana Kitchen

If you are a fan of I Spy Plum Pie on facebook you might have seen the amazing looking raw, vegan lasagne I posted on Friday. That beauty was from Sadhana Kitchen, a  cafe/yoga studio in Newtown. Sadhana Kitchen is in a warehouse tucked down a sidestreet off Enmore Street and it prides itself on making delicious meals using living, wholefoods as well as cold pressed juices and smoothies, cakes and other sweet things.

I escaped the rain and visited for lunch and luckily enough got myself a seat at one of the tables inside. There were a few people already there and it got progressively more full in the lead up to the next yoga class, and as people left the previous class many of them stopped to order a juice or smoothie to rehydrate. The cafe has a really peaceful vibe, with no one talking too loudly and soft, calm music playing in the background. It was a nice respite from the noise and traffic of inner Sydney, that’s for sure.

I started with the Daily Green Smoothie ($8.50) which included seasonal greens, cos lettuce, celery, banana, mango and apple. It was unsurprisingly delicious and I happily sipped away whilst waiting for my lunch to arrive.

For lunch I had the Sadhana Lasanga ($15.50) which was made up of zucchini pasta, cultured cashew cheese, basil pesto, walnut mince, wilted spinach and tomato sauce. It was served with a salad which had mixed greens, pepitas, goji berries and a tangy, delicious sauce. The whole meal was bursting with flavour and whilst it wasn’t cheap it was extremely filling and left me feeling full and very happy. It was also beautifully presented which probably counts for more than it should!

The range of raw cakes in the display cabinet were calling out to me but as there was no chance I could fit any more food in I decided to pick up two slices to take home and share with my sister – it was her birthday after all! I went with the Blood Orange Cheesecake ($10.50) which was the special of the day and a slice of the Mortal Sin cake which was a layer of chocolate mousse, vanilla mousse and superfood caramel ($10.50). The cakes were happily sampled by my sister and her housemates when we got home and they got thumbs up all round. Delicious! You can make such delicious meals at home too. Kitchenistic could help you in this regard.

I would highly recommend a visit to Sadhana Kitchen if you find yourself in the Newtown area – food that is full of flavour and incredibly healthy always gets a tick in my books!

Have you visited any raw cafes? I’d love to hear about more – wherever in the world they might be located!

I love Sydney! Never been to Newtown but that’ll be one of the first places I’ll go to the next time I’m up for a weekend.

I had a very similar lasagne at From Earth and Water, a raw vegan restaurant in Burleigh Heads, QLD. It was surprisingly delicious but you’re right, I think presentation had a lot to do with the dish. It sure looks much nicer than a regular lasagne!

Unfortunatley it was pretty rainy so I didn’t get the chance to explore much else in Newtown, but I did notice some other cafes that looked good too! I’ve heard about From Earth and Water before but haven’t been to QLD in years – I shall have to make sure I check it out when I next make it up there!

    Hello

I made your Banana choc chip quinoa flake biscuits today! YUM! Found your blog on google when I was looking for something to bake with the quinoa flakes I had in the cupboard. I’ve been using them for porridge as well, with choc chips (haha!) and some musli mixed in. Anyway, I thought I’d write to tell you about a funky place in Perth, Fremantle that serves raw food delights similar to what you describe here. It’s called The Raw Kitchen, my favourite is the raw nachos.

Well happy cooking, blogging and eating 🙂

    Cheers!

Hi! I’m so glad you liked them! They didn’t last long in my house when I made them, that’s for sure! That place in Perth sounds delicious – I haven’t ever made it over to Perth but it’s definitely on the to-do list, so I will have to check it out! Thanks so much for your comment!
