Recipe: Mushroom & Spinach Macaroni and Cheese

Mushrooms appear in my veggie box with somewhat regularity and I always find ways to use them by adding them to pasta sauces, throwing them in stir-fries or curries or cooking them up for breakfast (which is B’s favourite way to eat them!). I rarely make them the star of the dish though, so when I got a large bag full of little button mushrooms in my last veggie box delivery I decided it was time to change all that, and went hunting for a mushroom focused recipe to try out!

Review: Shop Ramen

Shop Ramen first made an appearance on Smith Street as a 10 day pop-up ramen store in Storm in a Teacup back in February, but now has a more permanent home near the corner of Johnston Street. I have walked past many a time and it is always extremely busy, but one Friday night B and I decided it was time for us to check it out for ourselves.

Recipe: Pumpkin & Green Bean Curry

When I first went completely vegetarian curries were one of my staple dinners – most commonly a potato and chickpea green curry to be precise! I gradually expanded my repertoire to include a wider range of cuisines and for a while stopped making curries altogether. In recent times I have gone back to making curries occasionally, and when I received both pumpkin and green beans in my recent veggie box I knew straight away what I wanted to use them for! I made this dish a little on the spicy side, but you can reduce the heat by using less chilli flakes and/or curry powder if you prefer it slightly milder!

Review: Jimmy Grants

We tried to visit Jimmy Grants back when it first opened, but upon arriving early one Saturday evening to find the place rather chaotic we gave up and went elsewhere. There was a queue out the door of people waiting for a table, the available tables were being used by takeaway customers waiting on their orders, and it appeared that there were 3 separate places you could order food from – it was all too much for us! A few months have since passed so we decided it was time to give it another shot, and see whether the food was worth the hype! (more…)

10 Ways With Asparagus

The return of asparagus season highlights that Spring has finally sprung and it’s time to start cooking lighter, fresher meals again. My love for this funny little vegetable has been pretty well highlighted these last few weeks, but given the asparagus season is unfortunately a little on the short side I thought I would share a few recipes starring asparagus from some of my favourite bloggers so you can enjoy as much asparagus as possible while there is still time!
