After hearing a lot about the new gelato joint on Brunswick Street – N2 Extreme Gelato – I decided I had to go check it out, so B and I headed up on a Saturday evening to see what all the fuss is about. N2 started in Sydney, and what makes them different is all the gelato is made on the spot using liquid nitrogen. The theory being that the liquid nitrogen causes the gelato to freeze faster resulting in creamier, smoother gelato. Plus, there’s also the spectacle of seeing liquid nitrogen!
One of my favourite things about living in Collingwood/Fitzroy is the abundance of quality cafes dotted through the backstreets. It means that not only is there no shortage of great food, but if one place is full you can hopefully find a seat at another cafe nearby! Recently we’ve been trying out a few cafes that we’ve walked past a million times but never ventured inside, and that’s how we ended up at Ici one Sunday morning. (more…)
The next stop on my tour of vegetarian friendly pubs was the Little Creatures Dining Hall on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. Little Creatures are a brewery based in Fremantle, Western Australia and make drinks such as the Little Creatures beers, Pipsqueak ciders and White Rabbit beers. The dining hall in Melbourne is a large space, set up like a German beer hall and serves breakfast (on weekends only), lunch and dinner as well as obviously stocking all their alcoholic beverages. And we’re back for the third instalment of the tour of vegetarian friendly pubs! If you missed stop 1 and two, you can find them here and here! This time I headed to the Union Club Hotel in Fitzroy for an easy Saturday night meal. The place was absolutely packed, but we managed to find ourselves a table on the outside roof deck (which luckily has heaters!) and settled in for our dinner.
