Living Sustainably Locally

One of the easiest ways to live more sustainably is to live as locally as possible – which means supporting local businesses, buying locally produced fruit and veggies and leaving the car at home whenever you can. This can be tricky however if you don’t know what is available in your local area, or how to find out more to inform your choices. I have come across some websites that I think are great resources and worth bookmarking – so I thought I’d share them with you!

Sustainable Magazines

In my quest to learn more and more about living sustainably I have been doing a lot of reading. Most of this occurs online but often I want to disconnect myself from my laptop and be able to do my reading other places – most recently at the pool after the hot-spell Melbourne just had! Sustainable Living Festival

From February 9th – 24th the Sustainable Living Festival is running in and around Melbourne with talks, movies, workshops and exhibitions. The main event is the ‘Big Weekend’ held on the 15-17th of February in and around Federation Square in central Melbourne. There is a market full of stalls selling sustainable products, informing about their work and holding demonstrations as well as a range of talks, interactive workshops and exhibits. There was even a bike valet parking station!

Veggie Box Challenge

As much as possible I try and eat vegetables that are in season and therefore haven’t travelled huge distances to the shops. I also like to support local farmers and so used to do as much of my veggie shopping as possible at farmers markets. I started finding it difficult to be able to get to them consistently enough to keep me going so late last year I started ordering a fortnightly delivery of organic veggies, dropped right at my door.
