The Foodie Files: Create Bake Make

It’s Foodie Files time again! This month I chatted with the super talented Lauren from Create Bake Make, whose sweet treats always leave me drooling! You may know Lauren as one half of the Fabulous Foodies Friday linkup (which is currently on hiatus due to impending babies!) with previous Foodie Files interviewee Lucy from Bake Play Smile, and these two ladies have put out some fantastic ebooks which are well worth checking out.

Without further ado, let’s see what Lauren has to say!

Foodie Files: Create Bake Make | I Spy Plum PieDo you have a philosophy towards food?

Simple, comforting and delicious food is important to me.  I like to keep it as simple as I can when it comes to putting meals and treats together as I want people to look at my recipes and think “I can do that” and not be intimidated.  Also it helps to keep things easy with two kids running around the kitchen who always want to help!

What’s your favourite food memory?

My Great Nan was an AMAZING home cook and I just love making many of her recipes for my own family.  I will never forget watching her cream butter and sugar by hand (literally using her hands) in a bowl while sitting on her kitchen bench with my sister.

Foodie Files: Create Bake Make | I Spy Plum PieDo you have a go-to food of choice?

I have a couple.  Chicken makes a regular appearance in our house as everyone eats it (always important) and it doesn’t take much to turn it into a meal.  When it comes to snacks, for the past couple of months I’ve found myself making two – three batches of homemade Muesli Bars every single week.

What’s your favourite meal of the day?

Hands down it’s breakfast.  Most mornings it’s something simple like a smoothie or muesli but I also love going out for breakfast and will ALWAYS order french toast if it’s on the menu.

What’s the strangest food you’re ever eaten (and would you eat it again?!)

That’s a tough one!  I’m not too keen on trying strange things, but have tried escargot once (in a pasta dish) and while I didn’t mind them, I certainly won’t rush back to try them again.

Foodie Files: Create Bake Make | I Spy Plum PieIf you were showing a visitor around town for a weekend where would be your must-eat destinations?

Locally it would be Harvest Cafe and Brown Sugar Cafe in Victoria Point which are both my regulars.  The Eat Street Markets in Brisbane are also a favourite of ours, there is such a great variety of food to choose from and the atmosphere is great.

Where can people follow your food (and other!) adventures?
