The Foodie Files – Zonkt Designs

For this month’s Foodie Files chat I’m very happy to bring to you the multi-talented Kim from Zonkt Designs. Not only does she share incredibly delicious recipes but she has even has her own online store full of gorgeous art, clothing and home decor she has designed herself – I wasn’t kidding when I said she was talented! Each week Zonkt Designs co-hosts an awesome linkup full of delicious recipes which always leaves me with lots of food-inspiration, so it’s well worth checking out!

Anyway, enough rambling from me, let’s hear what the lovely Kim has to say!

Do you have a philosophy towards food?

I’m not sure I do… I just like food thats fuss free but full of flavour.

What’s your favourite food memory?

That would have to be pasta at my girlfriends house as a kid. Her family was Italian and her Mum used to cook the most amazing pasta sauce, but the best was when it was a special occasion and she’s make her fresh pasta, the dinning room chairs would be ladled with fresh pasta sheets ready for cutting. It was the introduction to a new way of cooking and food flavours and it was magic.

Do you have a go-to food of choice?

Ooh that’s a hard one, I do love comfort foods, but I am not one to stick to same same. It all comes down to how I feel at the time. This also depends on the weather. It’s why I create my food planning around the weather forecast.

If it’s hot, I don’t want pasta I want pulled pork sliders with apple slaw, yah know. So for me, it kinda depends on the day, I guess.

What’s your favourite meal of the day?

Dinner or late lunch by far. My breakfast consists of coffee! so I don’t do breakfast and IF I do it’s usually on a weekend and after 9.30-10 so it’s boarding on lunch anyway.

My one big meal a day is definately dinner, but my favourite is having friends over and making it a late lunch to dinner, and all out eat-a-thon. lol

What’s the strangest food you’re ever eaten (and would you eat it again?!)

Oh I’m so not adventurous when it comes to food, I just can’t stomach the thought. If it’s funky or possible inedible it just wouldn’t happen. It’s that ongoing discussion of how much would you a cockroach for, my answer NO sum of money not a gazilion dollars would I eat it, just wouldn’t happen. So to answer the strangest would be lambs fry, but I like that as had it since a kid thanks to my irish nan. But that’s about as adventurous this lady gets with that kinda food.

If you were showing a visitor around town for a weekend where would be your must-eat destinations?

Locally it would be to the 2773 cafe up at Glenbrook – Blue Mountains pretty tasty and High St Depo & Henri Marc pretty good too.

Where can people follow your food (and other!) adventures?

Over at Zonkt.com.au – It’s a blog & shop where I post recipes, DIY and my designs. It’s one big creative hub, as I am a graphic artist and surface pattern designer I find food is also an area of play. It’s a creative outlet just as much as painting or creating art is. Just in another way.
