Weekend Adventures: The Birthday Edition

This last weekend was not only a 4-day holiday to celebrate Easter, but also my 26th birthday. Having a birthday on Easter has its pros and cons – a lot of people are away for it, but I did have a whole lot of extra time to celebrate!

My birthday landed on Easter Sunday so the day commenced with B organising an Easter Egg hunt for me in my backyard, resulting in a nice little haul of chocolate for me to work my way through!

We then headed to the city to the Bend and Snap Market, and whilst there weren’t all that many stalls operating while we were there (the curse of Easter!) I still managed to walk away with two new rings. Markets are such dangerous places for me! But who could say no to a ring with a cupcake on it?!

Next on our day’s itinerary was some celebratory cake and champagne and the Laurent Bakery did not disappoint. I had a crazy chocolate concoction with brownie, mousse, and who knows what else, and B had a passionfruit sponge. Both were delicious!

The highlight of the day was dinner – B suggested a trip to Chin Chin which neither of us had made it to before due to the fact it doesn’t take bookings and no matter what time you arrive you are almost guaranteed a long wait, so you need to have a completely clear evening to make it work. We went early and settled in to the bar downstairs to wait for a table, sampling some amazing cocktails in the process.

The bar has great interiors and friendly staff, so you don’t really mind waiting there, although by the end we were getting rather hungry and were more than a little excited when we were informed our table was ready. We decided to go with the ‘Feed Me’ option which is basically their banquet – we gave them our dietary requirements and they brought us whatever food they thought we’d like. It was so good, and so worth the wait. We ate until we couldn’t fit anymore in, and it was lucky that we had done birthday cake earlier in the night because dessert didn’t stand a chance!

So much food for just two people! Somehow we managed to roll ourselves home after finishing our feast, although it did take some effort! All in all it was a pretty excellent way to spend my 26th birthday, and I’m feeling very lucky to B and great friends to celebrate with.

How was your Easter?

Happy Birthday! That feast looks seriously amazing. I will definitely have to check it out next time I’m in Melbourne. Your birthday is a day before my sister’s. We celebrated her 21st this Easter long weekend 🙂
