One recent Saturday night B and I headed to Woodspoon Kitchen on Smith Street in Collingwood for dinner. We had been years ago (actually, on our second date!) and had really enjoyed it, so decided it was time to go back and feast on some delicious Japanese food. Woodspoon has a large number of vegetarian and vegan options and they are all clearly marked, which is always a plus. There’s nothing worse than ordering something that sounds vegetarian only to find out when it arrives that it’s not!
Despite living not very far from Bayte, I first heard about this middle eastern inspired cafe when Cindy and Michael reviewed in on their blog back in June. I decided then I needed to give it a try, so B and I finally made it there one sunny Sunday morning. We sat out in the back courtyard and soaked up the winter sun, while struggling over what to order as all the vegetarian dishes sounded delicious.
The next stop on my tour of vegetarian friendly pubs was the Little Creatures Dining Hall on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. Little Creatures are a brewery based in Fremantle, Western Australia and make drinks such as the Little Creatures beers, Pipsqueak ciders and White Rabbit beers. The dining hall in Melbourne is a large space, set up like a German beer hall and serves breakfast (on weekends only), lunch and dinner as well as obviously stocking all their alcoholic beverages. For my sister’s birthday dinner we met up with two of her work friends and went to Yullis Bar on Crown Street in Surry Hills. Yullis is an all-vegetarian restaurant with an international menu that is designed to be shared, which is always okay with me as it means you get to try more of the food! The restaurant was packed so we sat upstairs in the bar area which still has access to the full menu, it just has stools and low tables. This wasn’t a problem for us though!
Despite the fact I live at the other end of Smith Street to Trippy Taco I hadn’t been for a really long time, but in the last few weeks I have rectified this with two delicious visits. Trippy Taco is a vegetarian institution in Collingwood, having been first on Smith Street and now around the corner on Gerturde Street for over 10 years. They serve Mexican street food that is all vegetarian, with lots of vegan and gluten free options, and it’s always doing a roaring trade of both takeaway and eat-in food. It’s also fully licensed so you can enjoy a Mexican beer with your tacos – always important!
