With the warm weather behind us I thought it was time to pull out the summer produce and create an autumn balcony garden instead! I spent a few hours out on my balcony recently saying goodbye to the tomatoes and capsicums from summer and getting my hands dirty planting new things instead! I’d love to know what you’re growing at the moment too!
Some of my existing plants are still going strong, including both the chilli varieties and my mint and rosemary, so they got to stay put! Once my chillies have finished fruiting I will chop them right back again, ready for another productive season later in the year. My mint doesn’t need any encouraging though!
I’ve gone heavy on the herbs for my autumn balcony garden – adding some lemon thyme and parsley into the mix, to go with the perennial basil, mint and rosemary I have been growing for a while now. I’m looking forward to using the lemon thyme on roast veggies all winter long!
My other favourite thing to grow all autumn and winter long are greens of all kinds. I figure if I am growing them then I will keep eating them even when the weather gets cold! So I’ve planted spinach and lettuces galore!
I’ve also planted some Chinese Broccoli, which is not something I have grown before! I do love experimenting with growing new things – hopefully they work out, but if not at least I will have learned something!
Last, but definitely not least I have added some colour into the mix! Well, my parents did by giving me this gorgeous addition to my balcony garden! I do love looking out the window to see the burst of colour amongst the greenery of the herbs and the like! In fact, I think I might need to add some more colour to get me through the grey winter!
