This is the third instalment of my series profiling brands I love that are doing great things with natural, planet friendly products. Today the focus is on Original & Mineral (or O&M as they seem to be known!) which is an Australian brand selling hair products that are all free of ammonia and other nasties, whilst still being salon quality. In fact, the brand started in an Australian salon and the products including dyes, shampoos, conditioners and styling products are used in salons across Australia. Luckily, they are also available for purchase to be used at home!
I never used to pay much attention to what I was using in my hair, but the more I have learned about some of the chemicals that are included in lots of hair products, the more I have found myself moving away from using them as I don’t like the idea of what it could be doing to my hair and my scalp. On a more superficial level my hair is also the longest it has been in a very long time, and also quite far from my natural colour, so it makes sense that I should be making sure I am giving it as much TLC as I possibly can.
This all lead me to start looking for new brands to try, and O&M was one I had heard a bit about before, so I decided I should give them a go. The products aren’t cheap (for good reason!) but luckily they sell mini-sets so I bought one to try and see how my hair reacted. I started with the Hydrate and Conquer Mini Minerals pack which contained a Hydrate and Conquer Shampoo & Conditioner, a Detox Shampoo, the Power Base Protein Masque and the Seven Day Miracle Masque (50ml each). As I only wash my hair once or twice a week it took a little while to give all the products a good trial, but it was clear from the get-go that my hair was loving it. The products are all fairly strongly scented which may put some people off, but it didn’t bother me – particularly when I saw how healthy and shiny they made my hair!
Needless to say I was sold. I have since bought a full sized version of the Hydrate and Conquer Shampoo and Conditioner, which I got in a travel pack that also included a 50ml bottle of the Frizzy Logic Shine Serum. I also bought mini bottles of both to take away on holidays with me, as well as a 50ml bottle of the Atonic Thickening Spray to try out. I discovered a 50ml bottle of the No Knott Conditioning Detangler which I believe was left behind from when they were filming Offspring, so I’m trying that as well!
I really love that you can buy the mini sizes of the products because there is nothing worse than shelling out a not insignificant amount of money on a product only to find your hair doesn’t seem to like it the way you had hoped. This way, you are reducing the risk!
Overall, I’m very glad I have found a haircare brand that is Australian and believes in creating products that are better not only for your hair but also the planet. Luckily my hair agrees too! I can’t wait to try out more of their range – I have my eye on the Surf Bomb Sea Salt Spray next! I have bought all my O&M products from Adore Beauty (another great Australian business!) but their website lists salons that use their products, and retail outlets as well.
Have you tried any O&M products?
