Lockdown Eating: Polly’s Box, Collingwood

It’s time for the next instalment of my Lockdown Eating series! This time is all about the Polly’s Box I bought from Polly’s at the Tote in Collingwood. The box changes every week and is full of vegan friendly food for two, complete with matching booze!

The box is $75 and is designed as a ‘date-night’ treat, but I can vouch for the fact it works well over two nights on your own. With the weather picking up and the weekends of picnics ahead of us, the boxes are designed to work at the park too! I particularly love that the Polly’s Box comes with some flowers, it definitely felt like a nice little treat to myself. So, here’s what was in the box the week I ordered!

For starters I had a delicious crusty baguette served with a red pepper tapenade. The tapenade was seriously good – packed with flavour and there was enough in there to slather it generously on the whole baguette which was excellent. It was a punchy, delicious way to start my meal.

The salad was right up my alley – pearl couscous with spring vegetables and herbs. Pearl couscous salads are my absolute go-to! This was well seasoned, had a good mix of vegetables and was hearty and filling. Delicious!

The main event were four cauliflower turnovers with a tomato jam. They needed a short bake in the oven which resulted in flaky, cheesy deliciousness. The fact they needed baking at home made it super easy for me to just pop two aside for the next day. It was great to get freshly baked cauliflower goodness two days in a row without worrying about them getting soggy!

Dessert was passionfruit curd with pressed melon and pistachio crumble. Melon is not one of my favourite fruits, but this wasn’t overwhelmed with melon flavour so I still thoroughly enjoyed it. The crumble added excellent crunch, and this wasn’t a super sweet dessert which suited me well. An excellent way to finish off my meal!

Last but not least, my Polly’s Box included a bottle of orange wine. I first tried orange wine when I was in Croatia a couple of years back and really enjoyed it, but haven’t had it much since. So this was a nice way to reminisce about that holiday! The wine was delicious and went well with the meal, so I was a very happy camper.

Overall I really enjoyed this Polly’s Box. I thought it was good value for money, especially given it included the wine, and the staff were friendly and communicative around delivery. I also liked that it mostly came in recyclable cardboard containers. I am keeping an eye on the menu each week and I’m highly likely to order another Polly’s Box soon!
