Review: Hammer and Tong 412

We had been meaning to try Hammer and Tong 412 for brunch since it opened, but every time we had gone by there was always a large queue waiting for tables, so we’d gone elsewhere. This time though we were lucky enough to walk almost straight to a table, so we were off to a good start!

Review: Breakfast Thieves

While preparing for my upcoming move to my new apartment we have been trying to make sure we eat at all our local favourite cafes and restaurants before they become not so local anymore. This isn’t such a huge thing for me though as I’m only moving about 1.5km up the road, but given the number of cafes in that small distance it will probably be difficult to find the motivation to walk that bit further when hungry for brunch on the weekend! Vegetarian Favourites: Yong Green Food

Yong Green Food is an vegetarian restaurant on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy that has been serving delicious vegetarian, vegan and raw food for many years. The menu includes curries, stir fries, noodles, burgers, wraps as well as some Mexican inspired dishes. The menu is really well marked to show which dishes are vegan, gluten free, organic etc, which I always find really helpful. The service is always prompt and friendly, and the food arrives quickly and full of flavour – so given all this it’s no surprise it’s such a popular place!

Vegetarian Favourites: Vegie Bar

Vegie Bar is somewhat of a vegetarian institution in Melbourne, having been located on Brunswick Street for over 20 years now. They do amazing vegetarian, vegan and raw food and are always busy no matter what day of the week, or time of the day you visit. It’s definitely worth waiting for a table though – I have never been disappointed! In fact, I can’t believe I’m yet to write about Vegie Bar here on the blog, it’s been a favourite of mine for probably close to 10 years now!

Review: Jimmy Grants

We tried to visit Jimmy Grants back when it first opened, but upon arriving early one Saturday evening to find the place rather chaotic we gave up and went elsewhere. There was a queue out the door of people waiting for a table, the available tables were being used by takeaway customers waiting on their orders, and it appeared that there were 3 separate places you could order food from – it was all too much for us! A few months have since passed so we decided it was time to give it another shot, and see whether the food was worth the hype! (more…)
