I’ve been in a bit of a crispy tofu phase lately, so after being given a huge bag of homegrown oranges I decided orange ginger tofu needed to be on my menu plan. It’s sticky, delicious and when served with rice and my go-to garlic greens made for an excellent mid week dinner!
I found the recipe for this orange ginger tofu right here
Ingredients List
- 600g tofu
- 1 cup fresh orange juice
- 1/3 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1tbs soy sauce
- 1tbs fresh grated ginger
- 2 cloves garlic
- Zest of an orange
- Oil
- Spring onion
- Sesame seeds
Steps
- Press the tofu for 15-20 minutes to remove as much liquid as possible
- Meanwhile, combine 1 1/2tbs of the cornstarch with 2tbs of the orange juice, whisking well to combine, and set aside
- Pour the rest of the orange juice in a small saucepan with the brown sugar, soy sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic and orange zest and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes
- Stir in the orange juice & cornstarch mixture and whisk well to completely combine, then remove from the heat
- Cut the tofu into cubes and toss in the cornstarch to coat
- Heat oil in a fry pan and cook the tofu for a few minutes on each side, until crispy and golden, working in batches and draining on paper towel
- Return to the pan and pour over the orange sauce, tossing to evenly coat the tofu
- Spoon into a serving bowl then sprinkle with sliced spring onion and sesame seeds
- Enjoy!
This orange ginger tofu may have just landed on the top of my list with regards to ways to cook tofu, it seriously is that good! Not only is the tofu crispy but the sauce has so much flavour that I think you might even get non-tofu lovers over the line with it! And if not, well, more for the rest of us I guess!
Have you tried orange ginger tofu before? If not, I think you should!
